Blogging from iphone

Having recently recieved my new iPhone, I am now starting to work out what I can do with it. One exciting possibility becomes apparent when you install the wordpress client from appstore. This neat tool enables you to post directly to your WP blog from anywhere you get a signal. It also includes the option of including photos… So here goes….

This is the cup of tea I am making whilst writing this post.

Google android on windows Vista

image

I have been looking at a bunch of youtube videos for Google Android - the new phone operating system and thought I would delve a little bit deeper. There does appear to be a bit of an iphone flavour about the OS, however because it is not proprietary I feel it is a more interesting prospect.

If you would like to install the Android Emulator on a Windows / Linux or OSX system to have a bit of a play you will need to follow these steps:

Twitter: Text 2.0

Twitter.com

I have just recently got into www.twitter.com in a big way and find that it allows a digital conversation to take place in a way which is far more exciting than email.

This web app works best updated from a mobile device either through an application such as www.fring.com or via text message (at last I can use some of those free text messages my mobile contract gives me).

What has really made this application a revelation is having a hand full of real friends using the application, posting bits and bobs that they find of interest. Up until recently I was following other folk, however we did not really interact because we did not know one another. This was a bit of a waste of time and not really was social networking is about.

The one (current) downside to the application is that it seems to have reached a point where it is a bit unstable. I think this may because it is just getting really popular… Hopefully these issues will get resolved being as this is slowly becoming an essential communication tool.

making a community - work in progress

I have decided to see what it takes to make a community website (without the community) and this will be evolving here:  http://its.thegud.com . The plan so far is to install Mambo and work out what needs doing to allow folk to login, create content a blog and all that kind of stuff. I am not entirely sure how this will turn out, but I will be writing about the ups and downs here.

Making web 2.0 style graphics with office 2007

I have recently stumbled upon the Smart Art functionality of Office 2007 and found that is able to make the sort of flashy graphics you would usually need photoshop or illustrator to create. Obviously Office 2007 is more limited in its capabilities, however I have found that you can easily create really usable graphics.

Making your blog Mobile Device friendly.

Making your weblog mobile device friendly is becoming an important issue as the proliferation mobile devices accessing the internet is growing as an exponential rate. Therefore folk running websites and (in this case) weblogs need to ensure that their content can be viewed on the move. Therefore I am writing this entry to advise others how I am attempting to bridge the portable divide.

Micro Computers.

I love the look of this PICO-ITX builder kit from VIA. The chap presenting the video is a bit scary, but the technology does get shown off properly.

A change of direction.

So, I have stripped out all of the music technology specific stuff and will continue to write about that at www.klunk.org. I have therefore decided that this site will be used to record some of my experiments with computer hardware and software. I am not entirely sure how this will all pan out, but I am hoping that there will be useful information collected and stored over here.

Cheers, Gary
